Community-Led Development Programme (CLDP)

The Community-led Development Programme is based on a community or hapū and the Department of Internal Affairs signing a partnership agreement and agreeing to work together.

In community-led development, we work within five guiding principles developed by Inspiring Communities:

  • shared local visions or goals drive action and change
  • use existing strengths and assets
  • many people and groups working together
  • building diverse and collaborative local leadership
  • adaptable planning and action informed by outcomes.

In 2017, Karamea Community Incorporated successfully applied on behalf of the greater Karamea--Little Wanganui community for a Community-Led Development Programme partnering agreement with the Department of Internal Affairs, with the goal of contributing to achieving this vision:

Karamea is a hospitable, safe and productive community where members of the community can live, share, play, celebrate, prosper, and welcome others.

The agreement is viewable here.

Requests for CLDP Funding

The process for applying for investment is fairly straightforward, but does require advance planning. First, contact the Department of Internal Affairs Community Liaison Advisor dyan [dot] hansenatdia [dot] govt [dot] nz (Dyan Hansen) to discuss whether the proposed project will in broad terms meet the criteria for investment. Please note that while the Department of Internal Affairs Community-Led Development Programme Committee generally meets monthly on Wednesday in the last week of the month, applicants need to allow sufficient lead time to move through the application process. Please contact Dyan at least six weeks ahead of the Committee meeting date. Once Dyan has determined the suitability of the application for investment, the applicant will then need to use the online submission form below to submit the application to Karamea Community Incorporated no later than the Wednesday three weeks before the last Wednesday of the month. A calendar of key submission dates and deadlines is available below.
