An update

There was a good turnout at the meeting held on 19 April. We are now an incorporated society with an interim committee comprising:

The first meeting of the interim committee was held on 4 May and a copy of the minutes of that meeting and the public meeting held on 19 April can be viewed at the community website at Karamea.org.nz Notices and minutes of meetings will continue to be published on this website together with any plans or other documents relating to the work of our group.

One of our first priorities is to build a significant membership. If a good proportion of the community sign up as members we will:

  • Enable a greater focus on issues which are vital for the community’s future 
  • Create a more integrated community across sectoral interests
  • Facilitate better communication within the community
  • Engage a greater number in the community in the democratic election of our governance body.
  • Enhance the chance of success with funding organisations

As members you will receive updates and copies of meeting notices and minutes by email and will be able to stand for election to the committee when the AGM is held in 2017 (date to be decided)

The membership fee has been set at $5.00 per adult and membership forms will be made available at the Visitor Centre and at meetings of the committee which anyone from the community will be welcome to attend. The next meeting will be held at 7.00 pm on Tuesday 7 June in the Market Cross Community Building (RSA). The meeting after that will be held in the Little Wanganui Hall 7.00 pm on Tuesday 5 July.

Future plans are currently on hold pending the Council’s decision on Vision 2010 funding and as soon as we find out the outcome of that process we will be communicating with the community. If you have signed up as a member you will get an early email “heads up” on that (and any other KCI issues)

So ……….. we expect to have forms available from Tuesday 25 May – and we look forward to connecting with as many people as possible in our community.
