Next Karamea Forum - Global Economy and Dairy

Submitted by Rick Lucas on Sun, 10/07/2011 - 1:00am

NEXT KARAMEA COMMUNITY FORUM, JULY 15 @ RIVERSTONE RESTAURANT

Over the past 2+ years Karamea and Little Wanganui have benefitted from a series of community forums designed to address issues and provide valuable information to our residents. The next forum is no exception. The guest speaker is a Karamea girl who made good in the banking industry, Hayley Moynihan.

Based in Christchurch, Hayley is Rabobank‟s senior analyst for the dairy and animal protein sectors for New Zealand. Her role involves analysing developments in regional and global markets, advising the bank on industry issues and assisting clients to assess the implications of market developments for their businesses.

Hayley has more than 15 years of experience across the finance and agricultural sectors and has authored, or co-authored, Rabobank‟s global and New Zealand dairy and meat industry reports. Hayley is also a highly regarded speaker at New Zealand and international conferences.

Hayley will be speaking at the Riverstone Restaurant on Friday evening, July 15. The title of her talk is – “The global economy and dairy – double bubble or return to Eden?” The topic will cover the current global economic situation, particularly for agricultural commodities impacting New Zealand and our key trading partners with a focus on the dairy industry. It will include whether we are heading for a bubble (or correction as seen in 2008) or whether more favourable market fundamentals are here to stay and what the implications are for NZ farming and in regions such as Karamea. There will be plenty of opportunity for discussion with Hayley on what changes might be required in future. Each of these topics mentioned can be potentially very large on their own so Hayley will be guided by questions and the level of interest on the night as to what the talk most focuses on most. This forum should be of interest to many in our community!
