Special Announcement: 'Volunteers' Brunch'

Submitted by Rick Lucas on Sat, 03/10/2009 - 11:41am

‘V’ is for Victory and for Volunteers! Much of Karamea’s successful history and present-day accomplishments can be attributed to the ongoing and selfless energy of local volunteers.

Volunteer spirit binds Karamea and Little Wanganui together, gets things done and contributes to a better future. Those who volunteer know that their efforts aren’t just for today. That effort is an investment in the community that will be enjoyed years from now, by locals and visitors to our district. From special projects to ongoing community services, community volunteers make things happen!  It’s time to thank the many people who provide their support to the community.

On Saturday, October 31, (11 AM to 1 PM) at the Karamea Golf Club  our volunteers will be honoured by a special brunch. This occasion has been offered by the Buller District Council and Mayor Pat McManus, who will be on hand for the festivities. Entertainment will include a very special performance by the popular Karamea Shamrocks (Irish Dancing Troupe)!

This announcement is also an invite. If you volunteer your time and service to a cause in Karamea/Little Wanganui, if you are a community minded person who gives for the benefit of the town and its people, then you deserve to raise your hand, step up to the plate… and come to the brunch! We want to acknowledge your service and support, great or small, and thank you for your involvement. ‘Thank You’s’ are too few and too far between. Please step forward and accept this rare acknowledgment, even if you are shy and humble!  It will be fun and entertaining!

If you know someone who gives service to a community group or project or special event
then nudge that person to come to this brunch in honour of our special volunteer spirit!

A ‘directed’ version of this notice/invite will also be going out to community groups and identified individuals who are known contributors to community well-being and growth. It is hoped that as many ‘unsung heroes’ as possible will come out to the ‘thank you’ brunch. But you know who you are!  So don’t feel you need to be ‘targeted’,… jump on board and come out to the brunch!

To help in the planning it would be great if you could RSVP your attendance by phone or email to Rick Lucas, (Karamea Community Development Coordinator) by Wednesday, October 21. If you miss that date please RSVP by October 28. If you decide to come at the last minute…then please do come anyway! Hope to see you there!
