KAKA Press Release:

The West Coast Conservation Board has brokered a meeting between stakeholders in the 1080 issue; The Department of Conservation, the Animal Health Board, Forest & Bird, Karameans Advocating Kahurangi Action (KAKA), Kumara Environmental Action group (KEA) and Westland Regional Environmental Network (WREN). The meeting is to be held on Monday Dec. 8 in West Coast Regional Council offices in Paroa, Greymouth and seeks to bring together all community groups, stakeholders and affected parties regarding the use of 1080 to discuss the situation and to work toward a solution to pest and bovine Tb control on the West Coast that is acceptable to all sectors and to residents of the West Coast. KAKA is taking a proactive approach toward the meeting and hopes for a positive outcome––one that leads to the immediate development and speedy implementation of acceptable, safe alternatives to aerial 1080 applications. Alternatives that can be quickly put into practice on the West Coast and other regions of the country for the benefit of rural people nationwide, future generations of New Zealanders, visitors to our country and our primary agricultural industry.
